L-Tyrosine
The Focus Amino Acid
L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that serves as a precursor to crucial neurotransmitters including dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. These catecholamines play vital roles in focus, alertness, mood, and the stress response. Supplementing with L-Tyrosine helps maintain optimal neurotransmitter levels, supporting mental clarity and focus even during challenging situations.

Scientific animation showing the mechanism of action of L-Tyrosine
L-Tyrosine crosses the blood-brain barrier where it is converted to L-DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase. L-DOPA is then converted to dopamine, which can be further converted to norepinephrine and epinephrine. This pathway is particularly important during stress, when catecholamine turnover increases. By providing additional tyrosine, you ensure the brain has adequate substrate to maintain neurotransmitter production, supporting sustained focus, working memory, and cognitive flexibility.
Timing: Best given in the morning or before activities requiring focus
Can be given with or without food. Avoid combining with MAO inhibitors.
L-Tyrosine is generally well-tolerated in dogs. Should not be used in dogs with hyperthyroidism or those taking MAO inhibitors. Consult your veterinarian before use.
